Southern States Update: May 5, 2007.

Tamil Nadu is in the midst of a threatening water crisis. Proposal of Andhra Pradesh government to build dam over Palar river has added a new angle to the water conflict.

Meanwhile a team of technical experts constituted by the Tamil Nadu government inspected the Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala on Saturday to check its strength and unique features.

Jayalalithaa has asked Karunanidhi to announce as to when the suggestions of the Tribunal would be implemented. History shows that no tribunal has ever come out with an award satisfying all parties to a dispute. The Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, which gave its final verdict last month after 16 years of deliberations, is no exception.
